UAE Commemoration Day

As a contribution and recognition to the great efforts spent by UAE nationals who lost their lives while performing their duty abroad and inside UAE, a commemoration day was announced. This day which is also known as martyr day or Remembrance Day lies on 1st Dec (30th Nov pre-2019) every year, and it precedes the national day official holiday and celebration by one day.

Although it is a relatively recent event and a public holiday in UAE, it holds great significance in the Emiratis' minds & hearts. It was officially announced a public holiday on 19th Aug 2015 by the president of UAE H.H Sheikh Khalifah Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who marked 30th Nov of every year as a commemoration day.

30th Nov marks the day of UAE first martyr, Salem Bin Khamis Al Dahmani, who refused to lower the UAE flag on the Greater Tunb Island and was killed by the Iranian navy in the same year of the UAE unification.

This day is to signify the importance of heroism and sacrifice for the sake of the country's safety and security, as said H.H about martyr day "we are a nation cherishes the value of sacrifice and always remembers those who devoted their lives. Those who offered their pure blood to keep the nation's flag flying high."

It is a day to revive the lives of real sacrifices made by Emirati people during their duties, whether inside the country, abroad, for military or humanitarian causes. It is a remembrance day for the people lost during the Gulf War in the early nineties and the Yemen "Operation Restoring Hope", where around 45 martyrs lost their lives in 2015.

Just one day ahead of the notable national day lies a day to recognize Emiratis' selfless acts and remind their families of the great contributions their martyrs had to the nation.

On this day, Al Romaizan salutes the martyrs of Emirati heroes who choose their country's dignity, security, and pride over themselves. To those who know the true meaning of heroism, we say Rest in Peace and May Allah Al-Mighty guarantee paradise as their new home. We also wish their families, relatives and friends great rewards for their patriotism, great patience, and composure.
