The National Pride, 3rd Nov

11 O’clock every 3rd Nov since 2013 is a remarkable moment where almost all UAE’s employees in public, government and private companies alike spend reaffirming their allegiance and patriotism to the UAE symbol of unity, its flag. Although this day is not a public holiday, it is an important day in the UAE calendar. It is national pride.
In 2013, H.H Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has announced Flag Day to celebrate the accession of Shiekh Khalifah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2004.
UAE flag was first raised on 2nd Dec 1971 by the late his highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, announcing the official unification of the nation. It was raised only in two places in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. After fifty years, on this year, the flag had been raised over thousands of places, over houses, and companies. Over government buildings to show the continuous appreciating the UAE locals and residents show towards this great nation’s accomplishments over fifty years.
The importance of the UAE flag is its representation and symbol in the hearts of Emirati people. For them, it shows the pride of what their country has accomplished so far and their unity. The design was inspired by an Arab poet, Safi-Uddin Al Hali, and designed by the 19-year-old back then, Abdullah Al Maainah, as part of a competition held in 1971.
The flag has four colours in which each one has its own signification. There are black, white, and green placed horizontally alongside the vertical red colour. The hope is represented by green, the honesty by white, the strength of mind by black, and the courage by red. The overall design represents the Arabs unity.
The UAE flag is not only a flag that refers to the country; it is a national symbol that has great importance in the UAE culture and a great appreciation by UAE locals and residents. Therefore, the UAE government has regulated rules and strict instructions on the way the flag should be raised and penalties to whoever does not follow these instructions.
On this honourable day, Al Romaizan wishes UAE citizens a continuous of great accomplishments, pride, and excellence in their coming years. Keep the flag high, and happy UAE Flag Day.
