Diamonds are not only precious stone, but it is on the top of the four precious stones due to their incredible features such as hardness and rareness.

Diamond is rated 10 on the Mohs scale, which is the top of the scale. It is well-known to people that diamonds are colourless. However, depending on the inclusion concentrations and any defects in their structure, the transparent diamonds may have a colour range between yellowish to brownish diamonds. Usually, the most transparent diamond with zero inclusion is the most expensive among other colour variations of a transparent diamond.

However, it may not be known to people that diamonds in nature may have different colours such as red, pink, blue, black, and white apart from the colourless diamond and its variation of yellow, orange, and brown. Sometimes, these coloured diamonds may be more valuable and expensive than a clear transparent diamond due to their rareness. These coloured diamonds are referred to as fancy diamonds.

So, what are these coloured diamonds?

Pink diamonds rank just below red diamonds in terms of rareness. Like red diamonds, the reason for their nice pink colour is still unknown. Scientists, though, presume that the pressure and strain a rough diamond is experiencing while formation has affected its lattice and caused a distortion which in its return caused pink zones in the diamond.

Their soft hue that evokes feminine touches works perfectly in wedding jewellery such as rings or earrings. Adding to this, pink diamonds symbolise romance.

Blue diamonds' colour formation, on the other hand, is known. It is caused due to the boron traces in the carbon. Their beautiful blue colour ranges from vivid colour to light blue. Sometimes, their hue may be closer to a greenish colour.

Blue diamonds are also rare and can be found only in India, Australia and South Africa, and their value is determined by the colour intensity. For example, the more intense the blue colour is, the rarest, thus the most expensive. However, these are not as rare as red or pink diamonds are.

Since blue diamonds represent faith and trust, these may work fine with pendants in necklaces, stud earrings and, of course, rings as a gratitude gesture in a relationship.

The most popular fancy diamonds in recent years are black diamonds. They gain their unique colour from the high amount of inclusions and clusters of graphite inside them.
