How many of us spend hours wondering how to look beautiful, and elegant, and at the same time have an appropriate look for work. Dressing to work is different from every day or on special occasions. There are many things to take into consideration when it comes to dressing up for the office. The jewellery that may look appropriate & suitable for every day may not work for the office.
Choosing which jewellery to wear in the office depends on the overall office environment and your type of work. These things will define what not to wear or what to avoid more than what you should wear. Also, it is easier to know what to avoid rather than what to wear.
So, how do you know if your look fits within your work and among colleagues?
If the work environment is conservative, then a role of thumb says, to keep it simple and ordinary. Avoid going with statement jewellery and wild accessories such as long hoops earrings, big statement bracelets, bizarre shapes jewellery, or nose/mouth piercings.
Also, it is advisable to check with your company regarding the dress code, if any. Trying to get the overall concept of what is considered “not appropriate” among your colleagues might be a good way to know how to accessorize at work.
On the contrary, if your company’s environment is creative or a fashion-related company, it will be nice to show off your stylish, unique, and large jewellery. For example, wearing one pair of long chandelier earrings in one ear along with a cuff bracelet may be a good option for you.
However, wearing bracelets with many charms, for example, or stacking your neck with layered necklaces that will create noise while moving, is absolutely inappropriate regardless of the work environment type. It will be distracting and annoying to your colleagues.
Your job type is important as well, and it will define what should you avoid. For example, if you have administrative work that involves a lot of typing, bracelets may get in the way. If your work depends on your hands, then rings may catch on things. If your work requires spending a lot of time over the phone, then earrings will be annoying and not practical.
If you require to have face-to-face with clients, then you must keep it simple. Stud earrings or a simple gold necklace are more than enough. You should avoid lavish or fancy jewellery because this may distract the client’s attention and focus.
As a last piece of advice, if you are confused or not sure what to wear, consider what goes well with your clothes, and try to wear one item of jewellery alongside your bands or engagement rings as they are appropriate most of the time.
